My name is Beth. I was born: Elizabeth Harrington Smith on September, 21, 1963, and I am the lyricist and lead vocalist of 180 <+> OUT. My home is Winchester, Virginia by birth and Washington by heart. I can’t list my years of experience and credits as I have none; although I’ve always loved to sing.
My musical journey began in the spring of 2002, when I was given a message from God to relay to the people of this nation. I was told that I was going to learn a new language, but at the time did not realize that the language was music. God is love and music is the language of love. What a beautiful way for God to communicate to His children!
My songs are very personal and are born from my experiences and heartbreaks that I endured during my life of sin. I was a runaway at the age of fourteen who went through the Hell of drug addiction, prison, divorce, mental illness, and the worst Hell of all, loneliness. I have told lies, stolen, cheated, sold drugs and made drugs. There is no sin that I am not guilty of. I have even committed murder because that is what abortion is.
Then, by the grace of God, I was healed and given a new spirit. Along with this healing came the gift of music with which I am to relay God’s messages. I believe that my songs will touch the hearts of many as we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
In falling short we have all felt the heartache and suffering that accompany sin. I was given many messages to relay but the greatest one was LOVE.

BRADY BOOTH is the composer and performer on "Catch Me Wings", "Where? Why? What? When?", and "Die A Death". He popped up on my instant message window one day and the rest, as they say....Will be history! It was really cool because we both felt the hand of God putting us together from the very beginning. WAY cool!
I've been bugging Brady to send me his bio information for a while now. Ever the modest Brady, I really do like him! He lives in Temple, Texas which I THINK is outside of Austin. He was born on July 17, 1952. So how old does that make him? AND the man is a musical genius...he can make a guitar sing...literally sing! He has a rare gift and I am blessed to be able to create music with him. His beautiful sound brings out the best in me. Thanks, Brady!

Why this name?

Music is the great communicator. 180 <+> OUT uses music to relay timely messages for today's world. The name 180 <+> OUT (pronounced one eighty out) actually comes from a term associated with the distributor on a car. When a car is running poorly you have to turn the distributor the opposite direction which is 180 degrees. Mechanics refer to this as 180 out. We have created a Hell here on Earth and we have to turn around the other way. The only way out is through the cross. That's why the actual way to write it is: 180 <+> OUT.

Do you play live?

Technically. yes...cuz we sure as heck can't play when we're dead! The general public has never witnessed us perform, but I know that will change in time. What I forsee is us making our first public appearances in concerts, arenas, and friend's backyards. I can't guarantee if that's what will come to pass, although in my heart I feel it will. I've learned not to make plans as God's got it under control and His plans may be different from mine.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

Thanks to the internet it's possible for artists to share their music on a global level. It also enables musicians to collaborate on songs regardless of the miles that may lie between them.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Your influences?

I can't speak for anyone else on this one, but as for me...This is the deal: I LOVE music. I could sit here and list my favorite bands, my favorite songs and my favorite performers but that's not going to tell you what to expect when you listen to me. When I write and when I sing it comes from me and IT IS ME and who I might like the best in my ear does not change the me that's inside my heart. It's an amazing feeling listening to a song and loving it and realizing that it's you creating the music. I'm looking at the miracle that God has made of me and my life and I am amazed!

My favorite spot is outside of Washougal, Washington, at the top of Smith/Cripes Road.
