:: celebrating 10 years
Wow, has it been that long? On Aug 13, 1997 SoundClick went online for the first time. First of all a BIG
thank you to everyone who made this possible - all the fantastic artist who share their music
and all the members who are interested in fresh music they don't hear anywhere else.
We called on all artists to submit music to celebrate this milestone.
8,458 songs entered, 250 songs made it to the 2nd round, 160 songs to the 3rd round. Finally, it came down to the list of winning entries you find below.
The final ranking is naturally subjective. Please see our comments why we picked songs and what we liked about them. It's important to us that this contest was not about winning, but rather about having fun, showing your skills, and networking with others in the vast SoundClick community. We hope you all had as much fun as we had. Looking forward to the next contest :)
Thanks to everyone who submitted his/her song! You all rock!!

| icbeats | They Jam My Soundclick | HipHop | |
| This song has it all – superior, professional-grade beats, flawless delivery, a catchy hook, and good lyrics. The lyrics deal with the progression as an artist. At first nobody believed in him, even on SoundClick there was no particular interest in him. But he hung in there, made connections, collaborated and became the go-to-producer he is today. Musically it’s the little things in the production that make a difference. There’s a perfect blend of the rhythm section to keep the song interesting and that keeps the song always pushing forward. Notice the 2-second-choir to set subtle effects? And the use of a live lead guitar is very well placed throughout the song. Overall an outstanding song, and we feel it’s a very worthy winner in a great competition. | |||

| Ehsan Imani | SoundClick (Mental Spark) | Rock | |
| You have to love the intro! Very professionally done, it starts with a spacious synth layer. The bass, drums and piano melodies kick in just at the perfect moment. The intro is 50 seconds, so it’s more what you would expect on a long-player version instead of a radio-friendly mix. And that is exactly the kind of intro that fans will love. The lead guitar work in the chorus is great. Rock-fans should definitely listen to the guitar solo (around 3:30), some serious guitar shredding there. Interesting fact: this is not a full-fledged band but all done by one artist, that’s amazing. And Seven Cycle is not from the US or Europe, he’s from Iran. Shows you that music knows no boundaries. | |||
| Sacrafyc | give it up for soundclick | HipHop | |
| Pounding beats with several layers of synth harmonies. Lyrics are promoting being on SoundClick, the support staff is mentioned as well. Good hook. We like also that several times the song flow is intentionally broken with a “SoundClick – Hey” chant. | |||
| K Drama | Bang Dat (dedicated to Soundclick.com) | HipHop | |
| From the title you could guess that it’s one of those gangsta rap song, maybe violent in nature. But nothing could be further from the truth, it’s very positive in its message. We especially like the thought of “in the church turn it up, you need to bang dat, …, at your job in the cubicle, you need to bang dat”. Overall it’s a good mix of Christian hip hop and SoundClick promotion, thumbs up! | |||
| Craig Scott Manninen | Put on some Soundclick | Blues | |
| A great blues song. We love the relaxed yet passionate guitar work, the vocals are very fitting as well. | |||
| studio48 (puck darlington) | soundclick | World | |
| Chill back with reggae. Interesting side fact: this artist is not from the Carribean but from The Netherlands. | |||
| MyRiddim | Click Soundclick Tracks | World | |
| A blend of smooth urban and reggae. Grab your rum, chill, and lean back. | |||
| VickieMcKisic | SoundClick Is Where It's At | Urban | |
| How could we resist a song where the intro whispers “soundclick.com” in a seductive way? It has all the bell and whistles of a soft, urban R&B hit. The lyrics deal with the dream of making it big, and getting the recognition as an artist (stating “on soundclick.com you win”). The chorus praises the free features, and it keeps you singing along (“soundclick is where it’s at, music downloads, friends, blogs, fat tracks…”). | |||
| Grand Jury | SoundClick Lovers | Alternative | |
| One of the most interesting aspects of this song is the intro. The female lead (“her voice is sexy”) and the male lead sing in perfect harmonies. The main chorus later on uses the same harmonies, but adds very imaginative drums and rhythms. Although the song is listed in the Brit Pop genre, we feel it has more of a Folk feeling to it (it’s always subjective). Overall this song is highly creative and original. | |||
| BIG B BIGGA | 'ON SOUNDCLICK' | HipHop | |
| Yes, positive hip hop from NC's big man. A very well deserved finalist in this competition. | |||
| blze | Soundclick Your Life!! myspace/youngblazeofchitown | HipHop | |
| This cat raps fast! | |||
| Van Buchanan | She Turns Out The Light | Country | |
| Very good country song: calm, reflecting on the little things, and being thankful for love and life. Musically top-notch, especially the vocals. | |||
| Matt Macpherson | My Sound Clicks feat. Harpoon Missile | Electronic | |
| dramatic song that is spanning several genres, mostly hip hop and electronic. The intro uses classical movie music effectively. Fascinating is the “behind the scenes” look that Matt allows us on http://www.soundclick.com/pro/default.cfm?bandID=309142&content=lyrics&songID=5719966 | |||
| mantrasolo | SoundClick-It | Rock | |
| Raw rock ‘n roll with lots of energy. We like the fact that although mantrasolo is clearly a rock act, he promotes the musical variety on SoundClick. | |||
| Komadyan | Sound Click (Rock On) | HipHop | |
| Hip hop with guitar riffs. The song also has a video. The chorus has an old-school feeling, the lyrics are delivered fast-paced. | |||
| Christina Woods | Soundclick | Pop | |
| This is probably the most fun song in the whole contest. Very uplifting! Thanks, Christina Woods from Copenhagen, Denmark! | |||
| M. R. Wilde | Soundclick Baby | Rock | |
| The guitar in the intro is the defining theme for this song. Upon that Wilde1 builds solid harmonies, with a memorable refrain that you can’t help humming. The bridge with the following return to the intro guitar breaks up the song very nicely. We like that the lyrics are promoting the depth and musical variety on SoundClick (“If you wanna rap or get down and rock, …, some swinging jazz, a bit of hip hop”). Wilde1 is also right on the money with the personal satisfaction that you get when connecting with fans or like-minded peers (“When we connect I feel a good vibration, You've become a best friend of mine”). | |||
| PASQUAROSA | f*** SoundClick? | HipHop | |
| In the true meaning of freestyling this song has been written, produced and recorded in 20 minutes. The lyrics are cocky, but they promote values we stand for as well (“I’m promoting peace and unity with a sick flow”). This entry is for the hip hoppers on SoundClick, who know that facing each other in a freestyle battle doesn’t mean any disrespect, but rather a respect for the raw nature of hip hop. | |||
| :: OUTSTANDING FINALISTS (in no specific order) | |||
| Tha Room Productions (Rhymez) | Soundclick | HipHop | |
| The beat uses many different layers, very interesting. Good lyrics as well. | |||
| Scott Houle | # 1 Spot | HipHop | |
| A self-promoting song, and why not? Getting the #1 spot is the goal of most of the artists. Currently there are 1.3 million songs trying to get there – yes, that’s in the hip hop genre alone. BTW, current #1 spot there is a pretty new entry by Soulja Boy, the current #1 artist on iTunes and Billboard. | |||
| LUNIE 3:80 | CONGRATS TO SOUNDCLICK FOR 10YEARS RUNNING-BANGER! | HipHop | |
| Describes how he left drugs and violence to lead a more meaningful life. Very positive message, and very well produced. | |||
| CaSper101 | Dear Soundclick | HipHop | |
| Can you believe CaSper101 is a 14 year old kid from Canada? I would not be surprised he becomes the next break-out star from SoundClick under 17 (the other one being Soulja Boy). | |||

| Merwolf | I Wanna be Number One on SoundClick.com! | Rock | |
| The song starts with the chorus vocals over a drum beat. You think, “this could be good”. Then the guitar kicks in and you know, this is a dirty raw rock song! Sticking with this concept the lyrics are concentrating on the essentials, which are “I wanna be the number one on SoundClick.com”. Rock on! | |||
